The team of the educational project "Open University" went on an expedition around the country to learn about the activities of Russians outside the capitals, from million-plus cities to villages and outskirts. The central theme of the Maps of Russia is civil society. The focus is on personal initiatives that can transform the environment, a rehabilitation center for drug addicts in Pskov, computer literacy lessons in Karelian in a village near Petrozavodsk, a program to save 19th-century port warehouses from demolition organized in Nizhny Novgorod.
