65,000 Soviet soldiers and officers, prisoners of Stalag 326, remained forever in German soil, becoming victims of Nazi crimes. After the end of World War II, only local residents knew about the "Russian cemetery" in Stuckenbrock. But none of them objected when, at the height of the Cold War, a monument to 42 POW commanders of the Red Army who were shot in Stalag 326 was demolished.
