Märta Eriksson and Berta Edergren become maids with responsibility for almost all housework and all childcare. The profession became their only position until marriage and had a family of their own. Karin Leffler and Maja Wennerstrand got places as cooks and housekeepers in the same family. In the film, the women themselves tell about their fates, it is a piece of women's history. As a contrast to the drudgery of reality, we also get to see the dashing maids of the 30s and 40s films, who never allowed themselves to be oppressed.
