A look into the life and work of the great Russian artist Pavel Andreevich Fedotov (1815–1852), and the stories behind his famous paintings such as The Major’s Courtship, The Choosy Bride, Encore, Encore!, and others. The artist died at the age of 37 in a psychiatric hospital, never having realized many of his artistic visions. Art historian Dmitry Sarabyanov and psychiatrist Yuri Freydin reflect on the reasons behind his tragic end and the legacy of his work.
