Disillusioned American and British expatriates living in Europe after World War I. Among them are Jake Barnes, an impotent American journalist, and Lady Brett Ashley, a British expat and his love interest. As part of this expatriate circle, they move from Paris to Pamplona, Spain, navigating personal relationships in the aftermath of the war.
