The main characters of the film are a husband and wife, doctors of a rural hospital on the shores of Lake Onega. Observation of their life and the life of their fellow villagers causes a variety of thoughts about what is happening to the Russian intelligentsia in post-perestroika times, about the indifference of the authorities to “ordinary” people and the problem of preserving the spiritual and historical heritage, about how not to lose a sense of the meaning of life.
