Jarmila Kukačková commutes to a Prague hospital from the countryside, where she has been living for twenty years "on the sly" with Pepa Padrnos, a garbage dump worker, and his mother. Jarmila is a cleaner at the hospital, and everyone there calls her "Kukačka" (Cuckoo). Kukačko, go get this, Kukačko, bring that... What's more, Josef's mother, with whom Padrnos still lives, does not like Jarmila very much and makes this very clear.
