Sur un îlot perdu aux confins de l'Antarctique, un manchot Adélie maladroit s'apprête à vivre sa première expérience d'adulte. Au milieu de 60 000 congénères qui ne lui font pas de cadeau, l'animal a tout à apprendre pour faire un nid, trouver une compagne, se protéger de l'ennemi et assurer la survie de ses premiers poussins.
